Myopia, commonly known as nearsightedness, is a refractive error that makes it difficult to see distant objects clearly. In children, myopia affects not only their vision but also their academic performance and overall quality of life.

Factors contributing to the rising condition of myopia among young people include increased use of digital devices and less time spent outdoors. Urban lifestyles have increased the issue of myopia.
Interventions such as regular eye exams, education about the importance of outdoor activities, and strategies to reduce screen time should be prioritised.

Addressing these concerns is important for fostering healthier visual habits and ensuring a brighter future for our children, says Dr. Hassan Alli - Head of Clinical Unit Ophthalmology at St John Eye Hospital
